Thai Smile Airline is a regional airline based in Thailand. The airline is a wholly-owned low-cost subsidiary of Thai Airways.
Thai Smile Airline was founded in and started its operations in 2012. The company is headquartered in Bangkok with its hub at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Initially named Thai Wings, plans for Thai Smile Airline the airline was intended to operate in the market gap between low-cost carriers and full-service airlines, but now the brand serves as Thai Airways’ Low-Cost Carrier.
The airline has a fleet of 20 Airbus A320-200s, which includes six Airbus A320-200s and fourteen Airbus A320-200SLs.
The cabins are configured into two classes – Smile and Smile Plus.
Some of the Thai Smile Airbus A320-200s are equipped to accommodate Smile Plus seating (extra legroom) and have a total of 166 seats. The rest of are fitted with 174 economy seats.
Being a business class, the middle seat of Smile Plus is always kept empty to allow passengers more space. It features 12 seats on domestic flights and 16 seats on international flights.
The airline flies to a total of 30 destinations primarily in Thailand but also in India, China, Cambodia, Malaysia, Laos, and Myanmar.
Thai Smile has a two-class configuration -
Domestic flight offers Economy (Smile Class) and Premium Economy (Smile Plus), whereas the International flights operated by the airline only offer Economy Class.
Passengers are allowed to carry a cabin item measuring a maximum of 56 x 45 x 25 cm and weighing a maximum of 7 kg. Additionally, passengers may have another personal item as hand luggage such as a camera bag, walking stick, etc.
All Thai Smile passengers receive 20 kg of checked baggage. Passengers traveling with a Smile Plus ticket will be entitled to an additional 10 kg, making a 30 kg limit, of checked baggage.
As an international passenger, you are advised to check-in at the airport 2-3 hours before the departure. Domestic passengers should make sure to check-in at the airport 2 hours before the departure although checkin can close just 45 minutes before the flight.
You can also check in online using the system they call “iCheck-in“. You will be required to enter your reservation code and last name on the booking and you will be able to view and manage the booking details such as select/change seats, select a special meal, specify Royal Orchid Plus (ROP) number, contact information or purchase excess baggage.

Royal Orchid Plus members can earn miles with eligible paid fares on all flights operated by Thai Smile and Thai Airways. These miles earned are also Qualifying Miles that count towards Royal Orchid Plus tier status.
