Buriram Airport

Buriram Airport (BFV) sits in Satuek district, well north of Buriram town, and the Department of Airports runs it. It got a new passenger terminal in February 2026, several times the size of the building it replaces, and it serves Surin province as well as Buriram.

The terminal that opened in 2026

The new passenger terminal entered a soft opening on 6 February 2026, taking its first passengers from Thai AirAsia flights to and from Bangkok. It has about 25,500 square metres of floor space against roughly 4,148 in the single-storey building it replaces, and it is rated for 1,000 passengers an hour, or about 2.8 million a year. Arrivals are on the lower level and departures on the upper one.

The Department of Airports opened it in time for the 2026 race weekend, and it is built to handle international flights as well as domestic ones. No scheduled international service appears in current listings, so treat that as capacity the building has rather than something you can currently book.

Older listings still describe a second terminal at Buriram as something planned, with a smaller capacity attached to it. That plan is what became this building.

Which airlines fly to Buriram Airport

Thai AirAsia is the only airline listed as serving Buriram, and every flight in current published route data is to Bangkok. Nok Air flew here from 2009 until 2024 and no longer does.

Before those two, the airport was served by Thai Airways from 1996 to 2002, Phuket Air from 2002 to 2005, and PBair from 2005 to 2009, the last of which used Suvarnabhumi in its final years.

Which Bangkok airport your Buriram flight uses

Thai AirAsia opened a Suvarnabhumi to Buriram route in July 2025. It was suspended in May and June 2026, and again from the middle of July, when the affected flights were moved to Don Mueang, the airline's main base. The airline blamed higher jet fuel costs and weaker mid-year demand.

As of August 2026 the Suvarnabhumi service is suspended, and published dates for its return disagree. Check which Bangkok airport your ticket actually uses before you book anything around it, particularly a long-haul connection, because moving between the two Bangkok airports has to be planned in its own right.

The race weekend, and what it does to this airport

Buriram hosts the Grand Prix of Thailand at Chang International Circuit, and the new terminal opened in time for it. For the 2026 race, held from 27 February to 1 March, the Department of Airports expected more than 20,000 passengers through Buriram between 18 February and 2 March, at an airport whose whole 2025 total was 241,946.

The 2027 race is set for 5 to 7 March and opens the season for the third year running.

The runway, the apron and the extension project

Buriram has one asphalt runway, 04/22, measuring 2,100 by 45 metres, which takes aircraft up to the size of a Boeing 737 or an Airbus A320. The apron holds six of them at once. The airport sits at about 180 metres above sea level.

An extension of that runway to 2,990 metres has been under construction alongside taxiway work, a cargo apron and a cargo building, reported in July 2025 as close to finished and due during 2026. As of August 2026 the published runway length was still 2,100 metres.

Where Buriram Airport is, and how to contact it

The airport is at 143 Moo 12, Ron Thong subdistrict, Satuek district, Buriram 31150. The operator gives the telephone number as 044 666334 and the fax as 044 666326.

It is well outside town: published figures put it between about 30 and 40 kilometres north of Buriram city. Surin town is about 75 kilometres away.

Getting into the city from Buriram Airport

Taxis are available but not guaranteed to be waiting, so agree the fare before you get in. Car hire can be arranged at the terminal, though many of the large booking sites do not list the airport.

This is not an airport to arrive at without a plan for the last leg into Buriram. Asking your accommodation to arrange a transfer, or at least to tell you what a car should cost, is worth doing before you fly.

How busy Buriram Airport is

Published statistics give the airport 241,946 passengers in 2025, down from 255,350 in 2024, on 1,756 aircraft movements. Its best year remains 2019, at 355,497. The new terminal is rated for more than ten times the 2025 total, which is a statement about ambition rather than about queues.
