Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport is a regional domestic airport located in the province of Nakhon Si Thammarat. It was established in 1998, grabbing the spot as the province’s gateway from Chai Eian military airport.
Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport operated its first flights on December 1, 1998 from Thai Airways and PBair and was also served by Orient Airlines’ subsidiary One Two Go, but operations were later suspended by the provincial government.
At present, Nok Air, Thai AirAsia, and Thai Lion Air operate at Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport, with a combined 14 daily flights to Bangkok via Don Muang International Airport.
Given the influx of tourist arrivals at the airport, the provincial government mulled over expanding Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport and extending its existing runway to be able to accommodate international flights.
Transferring from the airport was made easy after the provincial government in June 2019 launched shuttle buses to the city center.
The service offers two routes – to the bus terminal at the city center known as Bo Kho So Hua, and Na Luang. Fares for buses going to Bo Kho So Hua are at 40 baht, and while that going to Na Luang is at 30 baht.
The shuttle bus service is applicable to those travelling solo, or on a light travel, or even those with small luggage, and can even help passengers save huge.
Shuttle bus services are available every day but only from 7:20 a.m. to 8 p.m. if travelling from the airport, and from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. if travelling from the city.
This option is best for those travelling by group.
Taxi stalls can be found at the arrival area of the airport so that passengers can book a transfer service hassle-free and without the need for negotiations with cab drivers. In comparison to shuttle buses, taking the taxi option is more convenient than the shuttle bus but is more expensive for solo or couple travelers.
Taxi rates range from 300 baht to 2,800 baht.
Car-rental stalls can be found at the arrival area of the airport, where firms like Avis, Thai Rent A Car, and Budget offer transfer services.
The car-rental service is one of the most convenient options albeit more expensive than the taxi.
Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport is small in size, with the terminal building only covering 7,985 square meters. However, the airport houses several facilities such as a waiting area, check-in and baggage counters, toilets, retail stores, and dining areas on the first and second levels of the building.
