Thai VietJet Air Finally Takes Off

Thai passengers will soon have another budget airline to fly with as the offshoot of Vietnamese-registered VietJet; Thai VietJet Air is finally ready to begin operations. The formal announcement will be made within the next two months and the new Thailand’s budget carrier will begin flying soon after that.
TVJA to First Take Over VietJet’s Operations from Suvarnabhumi to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City
TVJA will reportedly first take over VietJet’s operations from Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok to Hanoi (1 to 2 flights per day) and to Ho Chi Minh City (3 to 4 flights per day) and will be using Airbus A320 aircraft on them.
Following this, TVJA will next expand its network to include direct flights from Bangkok to Dalat, Danang and Haiphong. All three routes will start as 4-time weekly, with the exception that Bangkok-Danang will be upgraded to a daily service.
VietJet Air senior execs have previously stated they want to operate flights to Phuket, Udon Thani and Chiang Mai. VietJet VP, however, did not want to comment on whether TVJA will operate domestic flights within Thailand.
We Were Waiting for the Right Moment, Says VietJet Air VP Binh
In an interview for Thailand’s media, vice president of VietJet Aviation said TVJA was ready to begin operations in Thailand, but was waiting for the “right moment”.
Binh also said that customers can expect incentive schemes to be launched in the next two months in order to boost the number of tourists between the two countries by at least 10 per cent over the next year.
She said:
Three years of preparations have been quite good, allowing us to ensure that all of the crucial factors, including the airline’s operating license, safety protocols and issues related to operational readiness are set for a smooth kickoff.
Asked whether the fact that Thai VietJet changed ownership made this deal difficult, Ms Binh said this was not an issue. The original TVJA partner Somphong Sooksanguan sold his 51 per cent share in Thai VietJet Air last year.
VietJet will sit with the tourism boards of both Thailand and Vietnam as well as with important players in the tourism industry to see how the airline can help raise bilateral tourism traffic.
