The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has warned Thai VietJet that the airline would be penalised if it doesn’t start complying with aviation laws. The warning came after Thai VietJet cancelled three flights on its Bangkok - Phuket route on Thursday.
Thai VietJet reports that a flight from Bangkok to Phuket was cancelled owing to cumulative delays at Suvarnabhumi Airport. Ultimately, the return flight was cancelled.
On Thursday evening, passengers were relocated to another aircraft. However, airline employees permitted one too many people on board. The pilot circled the aircraft for a second passenger check.
However, by the time the seating arrangement was agreed upon, the plane had missed its slot and the runway had closed for repair. Thai Viet Jet cancelled the flight, and over 300 passengers were forced to remain in Phuket for an additional night.
The airline maintains it took exceptional care of guests and put them up in accommodations for the night. Passengers desiring to cancel their tickets with the airline were reimbursed, and other passengers went home the following morning, according to Thai VietJet.
However, travellers reported waiting for hours and stated they had to help airline personnel arrange housing for everyone.
The CAAT has asked Thai VietJet's management to explain in detail why flights VZ2304, VZ2305, and VA309 were cancelled on Thursday.
Several weeks ago, Thai VietJet oversold seats on a trip from Bangkok to Udon Thani, which caused a family to miss a wedding in Laos.
