Thai Airways International (THAI) started a new direct route between China and Thailand yesterday (27th March) by connecting Beijing and Phuket as part of the “Phuket Express” campaign.
This will be a four-time weekly service, with flights from Phuket taking off for Beijing on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday and from Beijing to Phuket on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. This basically means that the travellers can enjoy a prolonged weekend, should they wish it.
The trip will take about five hours and 35 minutes in both directions and the Thailand carrier has decided to use a 264-seat Boeing Dreamliner B787 on it.
Speaking about the new route, Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) office in Beijing, China, Mr. Bangornrat Chinaprayoon said:
This new THAI route is vital as Phuket becomes ever more popular with tourists and travellers from China who can now conveniently come here for weekends, knowing they’ll find the world’s best beaches, a warm welcome, and unique local experiences that will provide amazing memories.
TAT’s Director also added:
Phuket is a high-quality, must-see tropical destination and this new air access will allow tourists from our largest market to fly here directly with no hassles and start enjoying the beach and local culture as soon as they touch down.
Thai Airways International and Tourism Authority of Thailand will also co-host a three-day familiarization trip for members of the media and travel agents from China to allow them to witness the attractions that Phuket has to offer, as well as to promote the Beijing-Phuket route a little more. The trip itself will be based at the Marriott Resort and Spa Nai Yang Beach, one of the best settings Phuket has to offer to tourists.
TAT has offices in five cities in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Kunming. From there, it promotes and markets Thailand to travelers and tourists in China. The organization expects to see a minimum of nine million visits from China in this year alone and from that to generate around 570 billion baht profit for the tourism industry in Thailand.
