Thai Airways and Singapore Airlines have strengthened their strategic partnership. As members of the Star Alliance network, the two airlines have been working together for a while, but the new agreement will enable them to codeshare on more routes, giving each of their passenger's additional options when travelling around Southeast Asia and the rest of the globe.

By employing a single aircraft operated by a single airline but with flight numbers assigned to several partner airlines, codesharing is a popular strategy used by airlines to expand their reach. To transport their clients around the destination nation, several airlines subcontract out their connecting domestic flights. Bangkok Airways is a prime example in Thailand. They now share codes with 27 other international airlines to transport travellers to places like Koh Samui or Phuket from Bangkok.

According to Japan Today, codeshare flights between the airlines' respective hubs in Singapore and Bangkok would increase during the first phase of the new Thai Airways and Singapore Airlines cooperation. Once the agreement wins regulatory clearance, which is anticipated to happen somewhere in the first quarter of 2023, long-haul flights will be the next to benefit from codesharing.

After that, Singapore Airlines will let Thai Airways codeshare on its lengthy flights to South Africa, North America, and Europe. Singapore Airlines and Thai Airways will codeshare on flights to and from the American hubs of San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, and Houston. The co-branding will also be applied to flights from Vancouver, Canada, and Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa.
To improve connectivity inside Thailand and Singapore as well as in Europe, the Southwest Pacific, and India, the two airlines anticipate that these flights will be the beginning of a significant codeshare arrangement. The new agreement's advantages were welcomed by Thai Airways' interim CEO.

"Thai and Singapore Airlines have a long-standing connection, so I'm happy that their collaboration will help meet travellers' demands between Thailand and Singapore and beyond. Additionally, it will make it possible for Thai to extend its network to additional service locations in the Americas, Canada, South Africa, Europe, India, and the South West Pacific routes. In several service categories, such as the frequent flyer programme, customer experiences, lounge access, and airport ground services, the codeshare agreements will be very advantageous to our passengers. As Star Alliance members, the partnership boosts the networks of both airlines.
The new codeshare agreement is a win-win arrangement, according to Singapore Airlines' CEO.

"SIA and Thai Airways International have a good connection that we hope this comprehensive agreement will enhance. Both airlines operate widely across Southeast Asia and the rest of the globe and have a solid customer base. The expansion of our respective hubs and the improvement of the alternatives and services offered to our clients are both benefits of this opportunity.
