Thai Airways International (THAI) has announced some good news for all its customers traveling to Europe, as the airline will now add more capacity to European cities, apart from the 12 direct flights THAI operates at the moment.

Explaining the newest decision, Bryan Banston, Vice President of THAI’s Sales Department said this was done due to a “very strong” performance THAI had in Europe. According to Mr. Banston, the airline is now more confident in its business outlook for 2017, following last year, when they were in the black.

According to Banston, THAI’s four-time weekly service to Moscow, Russia, which was started in December previous year, has already attracted a good traffic from that country.

Banston said:

One of our key strategies is to grow European routes to daily in the short term. These include Brussels, Milan, Rome and Moscow.

THAI also intends to boost its relationship with Star Alliance members from Europe, especially from Spain and Netherlands, where the carrier currently does not operate direct flights.

Banston also said that he sees opportunities in driving Euro passenger demand into Phuket and other secondary destinations in Thailand (other than Bangkok) and in that regard has already added a flight between Phuket and Frankfurt, Germany in November, 2016.

This could be integral to the company’s plans to position itself as a network carrier in Southeast Asia through its Bangkok hub.

Speaking about this, Banston said:

We see good growth in network selling. We also see opportunities to focus on our network to move passengers beyond Bangkok to other parts of Southeast Asia, Asia and Australia.

Meanwhile, asked if he is concerned about competition from Gulf airlines on the Europe-Asia market, Banston replied:

THAI’s edge lies in our non-stop operations, which comprise one long and short sector. Premium and corporate passengers prefer such arrangements than to have the leg broken up into two.

When it comes to Thai Airline’s regional subsidiary, THAI Smile, the carrier should play an important role in generating new feed for THAI long-haul network and the company has already identified Europe as a good source for its Kota Kinabalu-Bangkok service which starts at the end of March.
