New Chiang Mai to Taiwan flights for 2023

China Airlines announced Monday that it would begin offering flights to Chiang Mai, Thailand. The bad news is that it will not occur until the next year.

The Taiwanese airline said on the day its borders were reopened that flights to the northern Thai city of Chiang Mai would begin on January 20, 2019.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday at 7.50am, the flight CI851 from Taiwan's Taoyuan International Airport to Chiang Mai will depart and land at 11am Flight CI852 leaves Chiang Mai at noon and lands in Taiwan at 5:00pm.

The Taiwanese airline said on the day its borders were reopened that flights to the northern Thai city of Chiang Mai would begin on January 20, 2019.

On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7.50am, the flight CI851 from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport to Chiang Mai will depart and land at 11am.  Flight CI852 leaves Chiang Mai at noon and lands in Taiwan at 5:00pm.

The trip to Chiang Mai is part of the state-owned airline's strategy to encourage more transit passengers to change planes in Taiwan on route to Europe and the United States.

Additionally, the airline said that the number of its flights would expand by 30%, with flights to Southeast Asia increasing by 50% in the fourth quarter of this year.

From the start of 2023, China Airlines will fly to 17 places in Southeast Asia, such as Cebu in the Philippines, Bali, Australia, and New Zealand.

The number of weekly flights between Sydney and Taipei and Melbourne and Taipei will grow from two to three in October and November, and then to four in December.

The number of weekly flights between Brisbane and Taipei will grow from one to three beginning next month, and a route to Auckland will be added between October and December 2022.

All flights to Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane use the new Airbus A350 aircraft.
