Thai Airways has plans to give its customers on flights TG465/466 and TG461/462, which travel daily between Melbourne and Bangkok, a big upgrade. Namely, THAI will be using its new Airbus A350 aircraft on the route by September.
This was announced by THAI President Charamporn Jotikasthira in an interview for Australian media, where he also said both flights will move to A350 on the same day.
The airline is expected to receive the new planes next month, but it appears the delivery will be postponed till August. Commenting on this, Mr Jotikasthira said:
We expect to get it in July, but we got a note from Airbus saying it is probably August, because they have problem with a seat manufacturer. It’s not our seat manufacturer, but as a result the pipeline moved, everyone’s order moved.
According to the airline’s president, this means that the launch of both Airbus A350 planes that will be used to fly between Melbourne and Bangkok will take place in September probably.
Once the new A350s roll out, THAI passengers will be able to enjoy a number of upgrades, specifically in the Business Class, where they will have free Internet access inflight and “dine on demand” meals. Their European counterparts already have the chance to enjoy these.
Mr Jotikasthira said:
We believe our Business Class to be one of the best Business Class in the world, but in the past we did not package it accordingly.
Speaking of Australian routes, Thai Airways has moved the departure of Sydney to Bangkok flight to evening. Before, the service was in the afternoon timeslot. This is done in order to provide better connectivity for flight to Europe.
Bryan Banston, Vice President of Sales for Australia at Thai Airways International said:
This hooks into the midnight hub at Bangkok, and of course we have 11 direct destinations in Europe, which is a sizable network which we can now feed. So, in addition to focusing on the core market, which is Thailand and the region, we can also really compete in the European market.
He added:
We’re very keen in the Australian market to really leverage our network as best we can, and we have to have a look at Sydney and how we can grow that to double daily at some point.
