After 15 years, Thai Airways International (THAI) is finally ready to upgrade its ticketing system, something that its passengers have been calling the flag carrier to do for quite some time. The system, dubbed “New Website and Mobile Platform” should make it easier for website and mobile users to buy tickets for their flights.
According to Teerapol Chotichanapibal, THAI’s executive vice president, the installation of the new ticketing system, has already begun and they are now looking for a developer. Mr. Teerapol didn’t, however, say when exactly the new system will be launched.
As for the current system, Mr. Teerapol said it has several limitations. For one, it does not allow the staff to provide help to users when they run into problems with the ticketing system. Also, it does not allow digital content to be synced. Finally, if THAI wanted to make any changes to its website, this would take some time and effort.
When it comes to the new system, it would allow the carrier to be more competitive on both the domestic and international market. In addition, it would also be more user-friendly, as all content would be in one place and therefore easier to find. Finally, it would allow the airline to cut some steps in ticket reservation and insurance.
The website should also get a makeover and will be populated with new content, said Mr, Teerapol. This new content would include stuff like information on upgrading your flight class, renting a car or travel insurance.
In the meantime, the airline has issued a waiver on ticket surcharge and has prepared its staff to provide assistance to passengers at Suvarnabhumi International Airport connecting to its flights.
Acting president of THAI, Mrs. Usanee Sangsingkeo said that the airline expects flight delays on both take-off and landing when the airport runway becomes closed for maintenance and repair between 3rd March and 2nd May this year.
With that in mind, THAI has issued a ticket change surcharge for all THAI flight connections during that period.
Furthermore, the airline has also set up a center to coordinate Suvarnabhumi runway repairs in the east part of the airport, gauge the impact the closure will have, monitor passenger and aircraft movement and also identify and lessen any other problems that might occur during this period.
