Although there were some doubts as to whether the route will be approved, in the end, Vietnamese authorities have decided to give a thumbs-up for Thai Lion Air’s Bangkok-Ho Chi Minh City service.

With that out of the way, there is nothing stopping TLA from launching the first flight on this route on 28th October, 2016.

To start off the route, Thai Lion Air is offering a promotional fare sale starting at only 980 baht one-way. That will be considerably lower than any other airline currently operating between Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City. The fare will include a baggage allowance of 30 kilograms, extra sporting equipment allowance of 15 kilograms, onboard snack, seat selection and also airport tax and fees.

Flights (number SL176) are scheduled to depart every day from Bangkok’s Don Muang International Airport at 5:25 am and will arrive at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City at 7:00 am.

The return flight, number Sl177, will take off from Tan Son Nhat Airport at 7:55 am and will arrive at Don Muang Airport at 9:40 am.

Bangkok-Ho Chi Minh City route is already operated by Thai carriers Thai AirAsia, Thai Airways and Nok Air, as well as Vietnamese operators Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air. However, TLA’s parent company Lion Group, Indonesia, is certain that there is still enough room for another player, considering the fast-growing traffic demand and future potential of this route.

Thai-registered airline had to stop ticket sales for this route earlier in October as Vietnamese authorities asked for “additional documents” in order to support the permit application.

TLA Launches its First Chinese Destination

At the same time, Thai Lion Air has also announced its first Chinese route. Namely, the carrier will fly daily from Bangkok to Guangzhou, and this service will also start on 28th October this year.

This should be the first of several Chinese cities TLA is planning to serve with regular flights as part of its 2017 expansion plans. No word at the moment about any of the other potential cities.

When it comes to Bangkok-Guangzhou, the Thai carrier is offering promotional one-way tickets from 1,580 baht, including airport taxes and fees as well as a 30kg baggage allowance.
