Bangkok's Don Mueang International (DMK), had it's first Airbus A380 aircraft land there. Due to severe rains affecting the runway at Suvarnabhumi Airport, the Emirates aircraft was rerouted to the smaller airport in Bangkok.
At 9:40 p.m., the aircraft EK363 from Guangzhou, China, landed at DMK when the safety on the runway at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, Thailand's largest and busiest airport, became questionable . It is the first time ever that an Airbus A380 has touched down at DMK.
The jet circled Bangkok's sky for fifty minutes in hopes that the weather would improve, but it did not. Several planes were unable to land or depart from Suvarnabhumi Airport for several hours Friday night as a result of a severe and persistent downpour.
After landing on the west runway, the plane refuelled and then departed for Suvarnabhumi at 1:08 a.m., after the rain had subsided.
The Meteorological Department says that Thailand will have more heavy rains and flash floods today and tomorrow.
