Thai Airways International (THAI) has revealed on Friday that it will hire up to 600 new graduates between 24 and 30 years to act as its flight attendants during the high season.
The new flight attendants will be working with the Thai airline on a short-term contract for three years, plus another three year extension (if they impress in the first three years). Since the contract will end when the applicants reach the age of 30, they must all be 24 years at the beginning of the contract.
This is the first time that Thai Airways is hiring so-called “first jobbers”, but other airlines have already tried this approach and were successful with it.
The carrier revealed today that it will post the openings for the job on its website soon.
One of the executives, who didn’t want to be named, pointed out that by hiring short-term staff, the airline will be able to save much more money on personnel and overall operating expenses, than if it were to hire permanent employees,
THAI is hiring new flight attendants just in time to kick-start its network expansion. The airline has already announced that it will be returning to a number of destinations, including Moscow, and will also begin flights to Tehran.
This Wednesday, Thai Airways board held a meeting, on which they finalized their long-awaited network-expansion plan.
As part of the plan, THAI will begin operating flights between Bangkok and Moscow from 1st November, marking its return to the Russian capital. With several budget airlines now out of Moscow following the country’s economic problems and the people there still looking to fly, the opportunity presented to the Thai-registered airline is great indeed.
Speaking about this, THAI President Charamporn Jotikasthira said:
Russia is a big market and there are many high spenders. Full-service airlines are competing for this segment.
One month before its return to Moscow, on 1st October, THAI will also start flying to Tehran. The airline plans to have three direct flights every week to the Iranian capital and tap into this market as well.
