Thai Airways International (THAI) and EVA Air, Taiwan announced that they have signed a codeshare partnership, with the first codeshare flight starting on 30th October.
According to the agreement the two carriers have penned, they will use each other’s flight numbers on onward connections between Bangkok and Taipei, as well as on North America service.
In a statement about its new deal with THAI, EVA Air said:
This codeshare agreement enables EVA and Thai Airways to combine resources to attract more North American passengers and grow bookings in Southeast Asia. The codeshare strengthens North America and Southeast Asia markets for both carriers.
At the moment, Thai operates 7-time-weekly service between Bangkok and Taipei, while EVA Air operates a 27-time-weekly service between these two destinations. The codeshare applies to all of these flights.
The codeshare will also include EVA Air’s North American routes to New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle, Houston, Vancouver and Toronto.
Thai Airways' subsidiary, Thai Smile Airways has in the meantime revealed that it will launch five non-stop flights from Bangkok to India this winter.
This will include the following cities: Gaya, Varanasi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Lucknow.
Thai Smile has already started operations to Gaya and Varanasi from Bangkok, while flights to Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Lucknow will commence on 17th November, 1st December and 17th December, according to the carrier.
Acting CEO of Thai Smile Airways, Captain Woranate Laprabang said:
Thai Smile Airways understands the immense need for passengers traveling among these 5 cities. A journey which can be covered in less than 4 hours can take up to 8-10 hours. We wish to make it more comfortable and affordable to Indian passengers.
The airline will use Airbus A320 planes with 154 seats in the Economy Class and 12 seats in the Premium Economy Class on all five routes.
THAI’s subsidiary operates from both Don Muang and Suvarnabhumi international airports in Bangkok and uses its 20-aircarft fleet to connect Phuket. Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Hat Yai, Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, Surat Thani, Krabi, Narathiwas and Ubon Ratchathani in Thailand, as well as international destinations Siem Reap, Penang, Chongqing, Changsha and Yangon.
