7th Dec 2016
Thailand is breaking tourist records, despite still being red flagged by ICAO. This Monday, the monarchy welcomed its 30 millionth visitor for this year. This was Ms. Huang Junyi, who traveled from Guangzhou, China to Bangkok on 5th December, 2016.
Ms. Huang landed at Suvarnabhumi Airport on Monday, ignorant that she would win the “Thailand’s Luckiest Visitor – The Amazing, Smashing Success” award co-hosted by Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), True Corporation and Thai Airways International (THAI), but she’ll certainly remember this day.
Of course, she was presented with appropriate awards, including two Economy Class return tickets from her original destination to Thailand (valid for one entire year), a voucher for a five-night stay in any luxury hotel in Bangkok, Pattaya and Hua Hin and a mobile phone with a 4g SIM card, along with seven days of Internet usage.
The lucky winner also got a limousine ride to her hotel in Bangkok from the Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Speaking at the ceremony, Tourism Authority of Thailand Governor Yuthasak Supasorn said:
This has been an amazing year for tourism in amazing Thailand as shown by the huge numbers of visitors. We have reached 30 million and the high season has only just kicked off. We know that more people will be coming to enjoy the cool weather and holiday festivities. Thailand has so much to offer the world and we know that the Thai people make every visitor feel as welcome as we made Ms. Huang Junyi feel today.
Thailand is pulling all kinds of moves to get tourists to visit, especially after the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) red flagged the country’s aviation sector for safety deficiencies back in 2015 and so far “Thailand’s Luckiest Visitor” campaign has been one of the most successful.
The campaign received great feedback from its start in June, 2015 from both the public and the media world and has significantly improved Thailand’s tourism, particularly from China.
“The Luckiest Visitor” has been brought back in 2016 and will continue till the end of the year, so we should hopefully see 31 millionth visitor to Thailand by New Year.
