Travellers who were looking to fly out of Samui International Airport remain stranded there since yesterday. All domestic flights in and out of the airport have been suspended as heavy overnight rain caused the main canals in the Nakhon Si Thammarat province to overflow.

The situation did not get any better since yesterday in Koh Samui and 12 domestic flights that were supposed to connect Samui and Bangkok have been cancelled. Due to this, many passengers are unable to return home after holidays.

In an announcement Bangkok Airways advised its passengers who had a scheduled flight to or from Samui Airport to first check if it had been suspended in the meantime.

In addition to flight routes, several bus services have also been suspended. Acting president of Transport Co Amnat Anartngam said he ordered the following routes between Bangkok and south Thailand to be suspended: Bangkok-Thung Song-Chianyai, Bangkok-Hat Yai, Bangkok-Yala-Betong, Bangkok-Pattani- Sungai Kolok, Bangkok-Satun and Bangkok-Hat Yai-Dannok, and Bangkok-Hat Yai-Padang Besar.

In addition, most major roads are now under water and impassable and important installations are flooded.

According to the governor of the province Mr. Chamroen Tipayapongthada the Cha-uat district was hit the hardest. Military, police as well as volunteers have already been mobilized and are evacuating people from flooded areas to safer, higher ground.

Commander of the 5th Signal Battalion in the 4th Army Lt. General Suchaya Chuwong said they already evacuated around 300 people to Cha-uat Hospital and 150 to the railway station. In addition to this, nearby temples such as Wat Khao Phra Thong are also offering their help and are accepting small groups.
