Thousands of passengers at Chiang Mai International Airport are set to face flight delays after the airport’s management canceled and suspended nearly 100 flights on New Year’s Eve.
On Thursday, a high-ranking official of Chiang Mai Airport announced that the management will cancel 54 flights and suspend 37 others that are scheduled to take off and arrive. to avoid fireworks during the countdown.
The airport will only serve flights until 7 pm, after which all remaining flights will be ordered frozen.
The general-manager said the airport will deploy sniffer dogs to assist with detecting drugs hidden in passengers’ luggage.
Meanwhile, the official said nam prik num - a northern-style chili-paste often purchased from Chiang Mai for souvenirs - are considered liquid, thus, only 100 milliliters of the sauce will be allowed onboard.
