Daily AirAsia flights from Kuala Lumpur to Phuket are completely booked as thousands of Malaysians return to the island paradise. According to the Thailand Tourism Authority (TAT), the island is a favourite beach vacation destination for Malaysian families.
Besides AirAsia, Scoot, Indigo, Emirates, and Thai Airways also fly to Phuket from a number of cities in Malaysia.
Other areas popular with Malaysian holidaymakers are Bangkok, Krabi, Koh Samui, Phattalung, Pattaya, Haad Yai, Dannok, Betong, Sungai Golok, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.
According to the TAT, recent easings of Thailand's entry regulations have encouraged Malaysians to return to Phuket, with many purchasing affordable package offers that include airfare, lodging, and airport transfers.
Incoming travellers are still required to register with Thailand Pass, present proof of Covid-19 insurance in the amount of $10,000 USD, and upload immunisation records. If a traveller is not vaccinated, they must show proof of a negative RT-PCR or Professional ATK test done within 72 hours before they arrive in Thailand.
When the Thailand Pass is taken away for good, maybe on July 1, more people from other countries are likely to travel to Thailand.
Thailand plans to recruit one million Malaysian tourists this year, according to the TAT's Deputy Governor Thanet Phetsuwan.
