The first five months of 2016 were very busy, but also productive for the members of the Association of Thai Travel Agents. According to the report the ATTA posted this Monday, and which is based on the gees its member agencies pay to the airports to provide a service for international travelers, ATTA member companies handled more than two-and-a-half million international travelers (a total of 2,648 172) between January and May.
This represents a 15.26 per cent increase compared to the same period in the previous year, when this number was 2,297 648.
ATTA President Charoen Wangananont said:
China is still the key stimulator which will expand for the next five years… but we have to manage the growth in this market to avoid problems. Both tour operators and travel associations need to adjust strategies to cope with the surge in travel from China.
This year, January to May, 1,731 753 Chinese travelers visited Thailand, more than from any other country. This is an increase of nearly 40 per cent (39.37%) from last year’s 1,242 519.
Russia ranked second with 117,992 visits, despite a drop of 27.43 per cent from 162,599 visits in 2015 and was followed by 83,968 from India (+7.41%), 70,949 from South Korea (+10.80%) and 68,643 visits from neighboring Vietnam (-2.16%).
