According to the latest report by the Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA), its members handled a total of 5,040,622 travelers at Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang airports between January and November this year. This represents a 5.7% increase in customers handled by ATTA members from last year’s 4,767,509.

Furthermore, ATTA President Charoen Wangananont said he expects the Thai government’s Visa waiver policy, which can be used until February, 2017 will increase inbound traffic during high tourism season.
The Visa waiver frees travelers from 19 nations, including Andorra, Bulgaria, Bhutan, China, Cyprus, Ethiopia, India, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Maldives, Malta, Mauritius, Romania, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan from paying a 1,000 baht fee to have their Visas processed at Thai embassies or consular offices.
Last month, 233,800 foreign tourists travelled at Suvarnabhumi Airport with ATTA members, recording a drop of 31.97% from 343,661 visits in January-November period in 2015.
Travel agencies booked 70,224 visits from China in November, more than from any other country. but still recorded a significant drop from last year’s 173,236 visits, or 59.46% down.
Russia came in second when it comes to visits with 27,105, 1.03% more from 26,828 during November, 2015. This was followed by South Korea, from where came 17,868 visitors or 7.14% more than 16,678 from the same period last year.
Next was Japan with 13,297 and a nice improvement compared to 11,376 visits in the 11th month last year (up 16.89%), while India came in fifth with 12,755 visits, 13.69% down from last year’s 14,778 visits.
As for Don Muang Airport, ATTA reported a decrease of 30.70% compared to 2015’s 106,557 visitors. The association reported 73,846 tourists.
Most came from China - 56,180, but that was down 39.44% from 92,775 visits in November, 2015. Next one was Indonesia with 5,777 visits, or 35.48% up from 4,264 visits in 2015, then Vietnam with 3,001 visitors and a 146.59% increase from 1,217 visits in November, 2015.
India improved by 19.39% in November (2,604 visits in 2016 and 2,181 in 2015) and Malaysia recorded a drop of 21.37% in November, 2016 (1,564) compared to November, 2015 (1,989).
