After the situation in Ukraine gets better and China loosens its travel restrictions, Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob expects more people to use the international airport. To make room for more visitors in the near future, the existing terminals in the eastern wing will need to be improved, and the northern wing will need to be expanded.

Suvarnabhumi Airport will be expanded further, according to Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT). The move comes as the situation with the global pandemic gets better, giving tourists more freedom to travel.

After the situation in Ukraine improves and China lowers its travel restrictions, Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob expects increased activity at the international airport. In the near future, the current terminals in the eastern wing need to be improved, and the northern wing needs to be made bigger.

The development of the eastern wing will cost 7.8 billion baht, according to AOT. It will be able to handle 15 million passengers per year once completed.

In order to better accommodate passengers, AOT is also attempting to connect the eastern and northern wings. Before going into effect, it will submit a draft plan to the Ministry of Transportation and the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council for approval. The draft plan is now going through a feasibility study, which is expected to be completed in 2023.

Minister Saksayam predicted that the northern wing development would require a budget of 41.2 billion dollars. The new terminal will be able to handle 30 million passengers a year, and it can be made bigger to handle 10 million more.
