The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has reminded travellers that smoking in public areas in the country is strictly prohibited.

The TAT said that the reminder was in response to reports that the number of travellers breaking the law has significantly increased.

Thailand is at the forefront of a smoking ban, prohibiting the activity from almost all places such as workplaces and public transport as part of its efforts to promote a clean and smoke-free environment.

The TAT also reminded that travellers are not allowed to smoke on beaches, at sports training facilities, public parks, zoos, children’s playgrounds, markets, and amusement parks.

Electronic cigarettes, shishas and electronic shishas, as well as devices associated with smoking are also prohibited.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has advised travel agencies and tour guides to ensure that their clients were aware of the ban particularly in crowded places.

Since February 3, six airports operated by the Airports of Thailand have been declared smoke-free and that all smoking rooms inside airport terminals have been ordered closed.
