Thai Airways International Plc. (THAI) has ordered 12 new aircraft from the French plane manufacturer Airbus. These will be A350 XWB model, with 321 seats each.
THAI has ordered a total of 12 A350 XWB planes, eight of those on lease. The first is scheduled to arrive in August and will be used on the Bangkok-Melbourne route.
The airline said the following in a statement regarding the delivery of the planes:
The national airline will receive delivery of its first Airbus A350 XWB in August, 2016, with the second aircraft to be delivered in September, 2016 and the remainder to be delivered in 2017. Initially, the Airbus A350 will operate round-trip on the Bangkok-Melbourne route.
The first A350 has already received a paint job at the Airbus’ aircraft paint factory there. Next, the plane will have its engine installed and the interior decorated. Finally, once all of this is done, the technicians will begin ground and flight testing on the plane, until they finally green-light it to be used for passenger transport.
According to Alan Pardoe, Head of Marketing Communications at Airbus, 70 per cent of this particular aircraft has been made of weight-efficient airframe, which consists of titanium, advanced aluminum and carbon-fibre reinforced plastic fuselage. These advanced materials allow the plane to burn less fuel and to be easier for maintenance.
Also, Mr Pardoe said the A350 XWB carries the newest Rolls Royce Trent XWB engines, which emit 25 per cent less carbon-dioxide.
THAI’s new planes have 321 seats. In the Economy Class, the A350 XWBs will have 289 seats, with each seat being 18 inches wide and 32 inches in pitch. Also, each seat will have an 11-inch touchscreen that is connected to Wi-Fi, communication devices and electrical plugs.
In the Royal Class, there will be 32 seats. Here, seats will be 21 inch wide and will have an 180-degree recline. Each seat is also equipped with a 16 inch touchscreen, connectable with Wi-Fi, communication devices and electrical plugs.
