We are ready to move forward in India this year as we can clearly see opportunities both in the travel sector and trade segment. The AirAsia brand is already familiar to the people of India following the success of our Chennai and Bangalore routes, which both saw load factors of 84 per cent in 2015. Opening a direct flight to Kochi was very enticing and we expect to achieve load factors over 85 per cent within the first three months of the route’s operation as well as further growth in the future.

The carrier operates several other flights from Don Muang, including a five time weekly services to Chennai and Bangalore each. In addition, Thai AirAsia also connects Indian travelers to Phuket, Chiang Mai, Hat Yai, Surat, Chiang Rai and Krabi in Thailand, as well as to Ho Chi Minh city, Singapore and Vietnam.

Industrial Hub and an Important Port City

Kochi is at the same time an industrial hub for the country and an important city, especially for its southwest coast. Its economy is one of the fastest growing in India, with Kochi maintaining an economic growth of 8.3 per cent a year.

The city is also the unofficial trade capital of the Keral State, as well as one of the 17 biggest industrial cities in the country that includes IT (information technologies), financial services, construction, health services and naval transport as its main businesses.

Another reason for the passengers of Thai AirAsia to consider booking a flight to Kochi from Bangkok is that the former has several unique and interesting landmarks and is filled with a variety of opportunities for tourism activities not the least of them being Backwater Boathouses.
