TAT Confident New Route Launches Will Draw More Tourists to Thailand

The upcoming launches of four new routes by three local airlines, Bangkok Airways, Thai AirAsia and Nok Air, will do a lot to connect the country with the emerging tourism markets in neighboring countries of the ASEAN, believes the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

TAT Governor Yuthasak Suasporn said these new routes would draw even more travellers to Thailand and then link them to new attractive destinations such as Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos or Myanmar.

Bangkok Airways, the flag carrier of Thailand, announced two services from Chiang Mai to Laos (Luang Prabang and Vientiane). Both will operate seven times per week and will start in October.

AirAsia is also offering flights to Vientiane in Laos, but from Don Muang Airport in Bangkok and will start the service on 1st July. They will also offer a seven time per week service on the route.

The third carrier, Nok Air, is starting its Bangkok-Mandalay, Myanmar three-time weekly service in October, same as Bangkok Airways.

“Travelers From Europe Want to Visit More Than One Country”

The idea here, TAT says, is that international visitors, particularly those coming from Europe, are not interested in visiting only one ASEAN country, say Thailand, but want to see more than one when traveling in this region.

For this reason, TAT organized the Mega FAM Trip last year between Thailand and Myanmar and the “Mega Caravan” to ASEAN in January this year, taking travelers from Thailand to Laos, Vietnam and finally to Cambodia.

TAT is also planning to introduce the “ASEAN Bucket List 50 Things to Discover Aseaness” campaign in which it will recommend 10 destinations in ASEAN region to be linked together to reflect this region’s uniqueness.

Mr Yuthasak said:

The Asean market has potential to grow despite the global economic slowdown.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand put the ASEAN market as its top priority market, in order to prompt tourists from those countries to travel to Vietnam. It plans to work closely with member countries in promoting tourism in the region.

The ASEAN will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year with the “Visit ASEAN@50” campaign.
