Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok is boosting the number of check-in counters in anticipation of an expected tourist influx. However, the increase is still some months away. Approximately 70,000 travellers per day are anticipated to arrive in the nation's capital, with that number increasing to 100,000 per day during the peak season.
Kittipong Kittikachon, general manager of Suvarnabhumi Airport, briefed the media yesterday that the airport anticipates the arrival of approximately 460 domestic and international flights every day. Domestic flights are planned to reach 200 per day, while international flights are expected to land 240 times per day. Kittipong noted that 70,000 travellers will come to Bangkok as a result of these flights, including 28,000 local and 42,000 overseas tourists.
A recent report from Suvarnabhumi Airport expects an increase in travellers during Thailand's peak season, beginning in October. The airport manager estimates that the daily number of passengers could exceed 100,000. To avoid crowded terminals, he has urged each airline to open check-in counters three hours before flights are due to depart.
Kittipong disclosed that the number of check-in counters has been expanded to 318, with 196 self-check-in machines and 42 self-baggage loading counters on standby. He stated that Suvarnabhumi Airport has updated the restrooms within the passenger terminals, security checkpoint, and passport control desk.
The passenger terminal's west side, which is now undergoing renovations, is set to reopen at the end of this month.
