Skytrax Names THAI “World’s Best Economy Airline”

In a ceremony held this Tuesday at the Paris Air Show, Thai Airways International (THAI) has received the award for the “World’s Best Economy Airline” for this year by Skytrax World Airline Awards.

In addition to winning the “Oscar” for the best global economy airline, Thailand’s national carrier also moved up two places to 11th position on the Skytrax list for “World’s Best Airline”. Last year THAI ended up on 13th position.

This year, the “World’s Best Airline” award went to Qatar, which toppled Emirates. The last year’s winner dropped to 4th place and was passed by Singapore Airlines in 2nd and ANA All Nippon Airways in 3rd place.

Here are the top 10 airlines for 2017:

  1. Qatar Airways
  2. Singapore Airlines
  3. ANA All Nippon Airways
  4. Emirates
  5. Cathay Pacific
  6. EVA Air
  7. Lufthansa
  8. Etihad Airways
  9. Hainan Airlines
  10. Garuda Indonesia

And, as we already mentioned – Thai Airways International at 11th place, just barely missing the top 10 list.

Meanwhile, another Thai-based airline has something to be proud of following the 2017 Skytrax World Airline Awards. Bangkok Airways has won the “World’s Best Regional Airline” award.

  • ANA All Nippon Airways – “World’s Best First Class”
  • Lufthansa – “Best Airline in Europe”
  • Norwegian – “World’s Best Long Haul Low Cost Airline” and “Best Low Cost Airline in Europe”
  • Saudi Arabian Airlines – “World’s Most Improved Airline”
  • Japan Airlines – “Best Economy Class Seat”
  • Singapore Airlines – Best Business Class Seat”
  • EVA Air – “World’s Cleanest Airplane Cabin”
  • Garuda Indonesia – “World’s Best Cabin Staff”

The Skytrax World Airline Awards were established and introduced in 2001. The survey covers more than 325 global airlines, whose performance was measured across 41 Key Performance Indicators, covering quality standards, safety, passenger satisfaction, in-flight comfort, meals, and ease of credit card purchase and so on.

This year, the Skytrax survey was conducted in the period between August 2016 and May 2017 and has attracted nearly 20 million eligible entries from 105 nations.
