Officials at the Phuket International Airport confirmed that they will launch an inter-terminal shuttle bus service during Phase 1 of the Domestic Terminal renovations in order to alleviate delays.
The shuttle service will transport airport guests from the car park of the new International Terminal to the Domestic Terminal.
An airport representative, who requested to remain anonymous, said:
People who park their cars in the car park can get to the Domestic Terminal by taking the shuttle bus that we provide. The bus leaves every five minutes all day long. They start running when the first flight arrives and the last bus will be after the last flight lands.
Asked about reports that taxi drivers are refusing to drive passengers from one terminal to the other, the representative commented:
We have no knowledge of this, but most taxi drivers should know where they need to drop off their passengers.
He also pointed out travellers should not walk between the two terminals, but instead use the shuttle bus service provided, saying:
They can but it is not recommended, it is better to take the shuttle bus provided.
He also said it is not true that some regular flights have been relocated to the X-Terminal, saying:
There are no flights at the X-Terminal. The X-Terminal has not been in use since the opening of the International Terminal. The X-Terminal was previously used for charter flights, but since the International Terminal opened we have stopped using it. Right now there are only two terminals in use, the domestic and international terminals.
The unused X-Terminal was opened two years ago and has the capacity to handle 1,000 passengers per hour. Its build cost was 151 million baht.
When it comes to a report regarding a water leak at the International Terminal last week, the Phuket Airport spokesperson said the report was right and there was indeed a leak, but it was quickly fixed. He also added that the incident did not affect any flights.
