Thailand-based carrier Nok Air is ramping up the number of its flights to take advantage of the high-season demand.

Nok Air Chief Executive Officer Wutthipum Jurangkool said last Wednesday that Nok Air will open more jobs and acquire two new aircraft. By year-end, the carrier would have had 24 aircraft in its portfolio.

Jurangkool said that the expansion plan was in response to Nok Air’s successful rehabilitation plan that has strengthened its financial footing.

On December 18, Nok Air will launch a new direct flight between Don Muang International Airport in Bangkok and Hiroshima, Japan.

The carrier said it was optimistic that the new flight will be appealing to passengers as they will no longer need to transit to Osaka.

On the domestic front, the carrier has ramped up its flight frequencies on the Bangkok-Buriram to four from three previously, and to seven from four flights a week for Chiang Mai-Ubon Ratchathani route.

During the first six months of the year, Nok Air’s passenger load factor was at 88 percent, down from 91 percent from the same period last year due to the reduction in the number of aircraft from 28 to 22.

Meanwhile, Nok Air saw its net loss declined by 3 percent to 751 million baht from 774 million year-on-year.
