Nok Air Starts a Direct Udon Thani-Ubon Ratchathani Service

For a long time, if you wanted to travel from Udon Thani to Ubon Ratchathani, the two biggest towns in the north-east of Thailand, you couldn’t do it directly by plane. Instead to get from one to the other, you would have to first make a detour to Bangkok and from there get another plane at either the Suvarnabhumi or Don Muang airport to get your plane to your desired destination.
Piya Yodmani, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nok Air said:
We see the demand and potential in Udon Thani and Ubon Ratchathani destinations – we believe that our service will accommodate the travel needs and benefit passengers in the Northeast region to conveniently travel between the cities.
Well, those days are over thanks to Nok Air, which started a direct service between Udon Thani and Ubon Ratchathani, making this a much faster, cheaper and ultimately, more enjoyable trip.
The inaugural Udon-Ubon flight DD9011 departed from Udon Thani International Airport this Wednesday at 11:05 and arrived only an hour later in Ubon Ratchathani at 12:05. Nok Air is using 86-seat Bombardier Q400 turboprop planes for the route.
The airline will at first fly three times per week between the two towns, but plans to increase the service if it sees a good response from travellers (which it probably will).
In other words, the carrier cut what was a 5-hour trip (not including change of plane in Bangkok) into just an hour long one. Udon Thani, located near the border between Thailand and Vietnam, is 326km away from Ubon Ratchathani in the lower north-east of the country. From Udon Thani to Bangkok, the distance is 465km and from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani another 476km, making that a 941km journey.
In other words, the new direct service will prove to be cheaper for the airline as well, as they won’t have to pay as much for fuel.
As such, travelers will be happy to know that the new direct flight will cost them only 1,500 baht, instead of 2,500 they had to pay for a roundabout one from Udon to Bangkok and then to Ubon.
