Nok Air has revealed that it will transform Chaing Mai International Airport in the northern province of Chaing Mai into a center for local and international flights.
Yesterday, the airline welcomed Chaing Mai Governor Wuttiphum Julangkun and the media to a news conference to discuss the project at Chiang Mai City Hall's Chang Phueak in the Mueng Chiang Mai District.
Kasemsan Veerakul, chief strategic officer of Nok Air, said that the airline will make Chiang Mai International Airport its primary hub. Wutthiphum Jurangkool, Director, Chief Executive Officer, and Chief Financial Officer of the company, stated that Chiang Mai was chosen because it is an important region in northern Thailand and a popular tourist destination for both Thais and foreigners.
From 2022 to 2023, Kasemsan advised the group that the firm would offer more routes from Chiang Mai to other places in Thailand and internationally.
Wutthiphum furthered Nok Air already flies from Chaing Mai to Don Mueng (Bangkok), Ubon Ratchathani, Udon Thani, and Khon Kaen. The airline is slated to launch four additional routes within the next year, including Chaing Mai – Suvarnabhumi (Bangkok), Chaing Mai – Nakhon Ratchasima, Chiang Mai – Mae Hong Sorn, and Chaing Mai – U-Tapao (Rayong – Pattaya).
The new route, Chaing Mai to Nakhon Ratchasima, will begin operations on August 1, with two weekly flights. On Mondays and Fridays at 8.45am, the flight from Chiang Mai to Nakhon Ratchasima will be accessible. On Tuesdays and Saturdays at 5:30 a.m., there will be a flight from Nakhon Ratchasima to Chiang Mai. The Q400 NextGen turboprop aircraft, with 86 seats, will be used to transport people.
The other two new lines, Chiang Mai–Suvarnabhumi and Chiang Mai–Mae Hong Sorn, were anticipated to begin service this year. The flight from Chiang Mai to U-Tapao is currently in the planning stages. The business stated it needed further time to examine demand and traffic.
Nok Air plans to establish a direct service between Chiang Mai and Singapore before the end of the year. Next year there will be more direct flights to China, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Laos.
