16th Dec 2017
Starting from 17th January next year, Nok Air passengers will be able to fly between Udon Thani and Ubon Ratchathani the Thailand-based carrier announced today (15th December, 2017).
This will be a three per week service and the airline estimates that it will take about six hours for the planes to complete the trip between the two cities located in the northeast of the country.
Travellers will no doubt welcome the new service as at the moment, if you want to fly from Udon Thani to Ubon Ratchathani, you have to go first to Bangkok from Udon Thani and from the capital to Ubon Ratchathani. That’s more than 3,000 Thai baht spent, just in one direction (1,539 baht from Udon to Bangkok and 1,799 baht from Bangkok to Ubon, for a total of 3,338 baht).
This way, via Bangkok, the total travel time is 4 hours and 40 minutes, largely due to the downtime in the capital, although it takes just under one hour to get from Udon to here and about the same from Bangkok to Ubon.
Being about 325 kilometers apart from each other, flights from Udon Thani to Ubon Ratchathani should be much shorter and the airline estimates that it will take just 40 minutes or so in one direction. On the other hand, distance from Udon to Bangkok is 475km by plane and from Bangkok to Ubon is 496km.
Nok Air operates six direct flights from Don Muang International Airport in Bangkok to Udon Thani and a daily service (seven flights per week) from Don Muang to Ubon Ratchathani.
Piya Yodmani, Chief Executive Officer at Nok Air said:
We see demand and potential to fly from Udon Thani to Ubon Ratchathani…we believe that our service will meet travel needs and benefit passengers in the northeast region by making travel across the region more convenient.
The carrier has not yet announced the price for flights between Udon and Ubon, but based on the distance and comparing it to some other flights, it should be around 1,500 baht. Customers will be able to book flights for the destination starting next week on Nok Air’s website, when the airline will also reveal any promotional fares it has planned.
The direct service will start from 17th January, and it will be a 3-time weekly service, using Q400 aircraft.
