Low-cost carrier Nok Air expects to increase its international presence, with new planned flights to lucrative markets such as China and Japan, among others.
On Tuesday, Nok Air chief executive officer Wutthiphum Jurangkul said that the company is looking at launching flights to Visakhapatnam in India, Hebei in China, and Okinawa and Kagoshima in Japan from Bangkok via Don Muang International Airport.
It also plans to introduce flights to Shanghai, China from Phuket and Chiang Mai airports.
Jurangkul said the plan was in line with the firm’s efforts to raise its international traffic to 30 percent from 20 percent at present.
On December 18, the budget carrier will launch flights to Hiroshima, Japan from Don Muang.
The carrier said it was optimistic that the new flight will be appealing to passengers as they will no longer need to transit to Osaka.
In addition, Nok Air is looking to raise its punctuality with on-time arrivals to 80 percent from 60 percent at present.
It will also add two fleet in its portfolio, to bring the total to 24.
At present, Nok Air is crafting its business rehabilitation program for 2020 and which will be submitted to the board of directors in December.
If approved, Nok Air said any plans for recapitalization will become clearer.
Nok Air expects its losses to nearly halve the 2.7 billion baht registered last year.
