Thailand-registered carrier Nok Air has once again shown its deep focus on the Chinese market. The budget carrier has now revealed plans for 10 more China-bound routes, starting from next month. Six of these will depart from the navy-owned U-Tapao Airport in Pattaya.

From U-Tapao, the airline will serve the Chinese cities of Baotou, Haikao, Linyi, Nanchang, Yichang and Yinchuan. All will be served non-stop.

In addition, the SET-listed airline has also announced two charter flights from Don Muang to Changsha and Zunyi, as well as a new service between Mae Sot in NW Thailand and Yangon. This service will operate three times per week; using Bombardier Q400 planes and it start in October this year.

Previously, the carrier announced four other routes to China. Nok Air already started flying between Bangkok and Yinchuan on 22nd July (one flight per week), Bangkok and Zhengzhou from 2nd August (four flights per week) and Phuket and Kunming from 15 August (three flights per week), while Phuket-Zhengzhou is announced to launch on 1st November, with four flights per week.

Not including these services, Nok Air already operated seven routes to and from China, including: Bangkok-Baotou, Bangkok-Nanning, Bangkok-Nantong, Bangkok-Yancheng, Phuket-Chengdu, Phuket-Nanning and Chiang Mai-Nanning.

Also, the carrier will be dropping some of the routes it deems unprofitable. One such is a Bangkok-Hanoi, which will operate until 29th October this year.

In an interview he gave to Thai-media, Nok Air Chief Executive Officer Patee Sarasin said that starting new flights to China, in addition to those the airline already operates, as well as dropping the unprofitable Hanoi service and introducing Mae Sot-Yangon are all part of the plan for the company to move to black next year.

Nok Air has sold its entire capacity on existing and future China flights to tour operators in this country.

However, even though the focus in clearly on China, Nok Air is not putting all its eggs in one basket and is also eying some other international markets. With that in mind, Vice President for Marketing Pinyot Pibulsonggram revealed plans to start flights to Cebu in the Philippines, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad in India and Fukuoka in Japan in the next year-and-a-half.
