Thai Airways International’s (THAI) fleet is now richer for six brand-new Airbus A350 XWB (that’s Extra Wide Body) planes. Here are a few things you should know about this long-range jet from the French aircraft manufacturer.

The A350 is a twin-engine, mid-size plane capable of using 25% less jet fuel than its twin-engine counterparts, as well as being a lot less noisy. In addition, thanks to being made from composite materials, the plane itself is extra-light.

The A350 XWBs trademark winglets allow it to reduce drag and that way save fuel as well as lower carbon-dioxide emissions and noise. Simply put, when you look at this plane and its aerodynamics, the first thing that will pop in your mind is an eagle probably and that’s exactly what the designers of this plane had in mind.

Inside, Airbus’ branded cabin, “Airspace ", offers more room, with a higher ceiling and more room to store your stuff in the overhead storage compartments. And, if you’re commonly suffering from jet lag, Airbus thought of that as well and introduced the “cabin mood light” to deal with this.

Vanessa Gerensceri, Marketing Manager for A350 said:

The A350 XWB will shape the future of air travel. We have currently 848 orders to airlines in the Americas, Europe, Asia and Pacific, and Africa and Middle East. With 84 aircraft flying with 12 airlines and more than 46,000 flights to date, 11 million passengers have flown it. The A350 XWB is powered by two state-of-the-art massive Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines. The world’s most efficient large aero-engine flying today.

As far as THAI’s A350 XWB goes, it comes in two classes. The cheaper Economy Class has 289 seats (18-inches wide and 32 inches long), in a 3-3-3 configuration (nine abreast). Every seat has an 11-inch touchscreen, its own Wi-Fi and outlets if you need to charge your devices.

The bigger delight, however, will be flying the Royal Silk Class. Here, there are only 32 seats, configured in a 1-2-1 (four abreast) configuration). Each seat can be reclined up to 180 degrees and is 21 inches wide. Finally, each seat also has a 16-inch touchscreen, Wi-Fi and in-flight entertainment system.

THAI uses A350s on the following services: Phuket-Frankfurt, Bangkok-Brisbane, Bangkok-Singapore, Bangkok-Milan, Bangkok-Frankfurt, Bangkok-Rome and Bangkok-Chiang Mai.
