Good Traffic for Thai Airports in August, Says AoT

According to a recent report by Airports of Thailand (AoT) all airports under its jurisdiction saw an increase in both passenger traffic and in aircraft movements for the month of August this year.

The six Thai airports under the supervision of AoT (Suvarnabhumi, Don Muang, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Hat Yai) served a total of 10,473,197 passengers, which is an increase of 9.18 per cent when compared to the same month last year when the airport served 9,592,841 passengers combined.

At the same time, the combined aircraft movement went from 61,801 in August, 2015 to 66,696 in August, 2016, or up by 7.92 per cent.

Suvarnabhumi Airport Leading the Pack in 2016

Thailand’s busiest airport for the first eight months (January to August) of the current year was Suvarnabhumi in Bangkok with a total of 38.04 million passengers served in this period. Thailand’s biggest airport also registered an increase in both domestic and international aircraft movement. Domestic aircraft movement at this airport went up from 5,953 to 6,583, or 10.58 per cent, while international aircraft movement increased from 21,291 to 21,944, or 3.07 per cent.

Domestic passenger traffic at Suvarnabhumi increased 8.20 per cent from 796,255 to 861,547 and international passenger traffic went from 3,854,522 to 3,916,347, or 1.60 per cent.

Don Muang Airport, which is also located in Bangkok, also recorded an increase in both aircraft movement and passenger traffic.

The airport posted an improvement of 2.27 per cent in domestic aircraft movement from 13,502 to 13,809, but also a much larger increase in international movement. This figure increased from 5,694 to 7,111, or 24.89 per cent.

Domestic and international passenger traffic at Don Muang also improved in 2016, as the airport reported an increase of 8.29 per cent for the first (from 1,812,645 to 1,962,926.) and 36.94 per cent (from 815,231 to 1,116,413) for the second.

Phuket Airport reported a similar increase in both domestic and international aircraft movement. For domestic movements it registered an increase of 15.04 per cent from 3,431 to 3,947 and for international movements 15.31 per cent from 3,587 to 4,136.

Domestic passenger traffic at Phuket International Airport also went up from 555,041 to 623,583 (12.36%) and international traffic grew from 584,161 to 708,250 (21.24%).

All three other AoT supervised airports, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Hat Yai also registered improvements in aircraft movements and passenger traffic between January and August, 2016.
