Direct flights between Sendai in Japan and Bangkok in Thailand have resumed operations after nearly six years of suspension.

A direct flight operated by Thai Airways International on October 30 marked the resumption of flights between the two points and the resumption was expected to boost travel activity between the two countries.

In 2014, direct flights between Sendai and Bangkok ceased following political unrest and mass demonstrations in Thailand that had led to the decline in the number of tourist arrivals.

“We are thinking about offering flights daily, including those that go through Taiwan and Hong Kong, using aircraft of our subsidiary," said Thai Airways President Sumeth Damrongchaitham.

“We would like the good relationship between Thailand and Japan to further develop,” he added.

Thai Airways flies between Sendai and Bangkok thrice a week using its Boeing 777-200 aircraft.

Sendai is Thai Airways’ sixth destination in Japan after Sapporo, Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka, and Nagoya.

Thai Airways said it plans to continue the direct flights between the two points by March 2020.
