The Aurangabad Tourism Development Foundation (ATDF) is in talks with flight operators for air links to Bangkok.
ATDF made the announcement during an event in Aurangabad on January 25 to mark the National Tourism Day.
In efforts to woo airlines, Airports Authority of India Director DG Salve said that the department has proposed for an immigration counter to be installed at the airport.
“We are following up with the home ministry. This would make way for international flights from Aurangabad,” he said.
According to ATDF, flights operating at Aurangabad Airport grew to 30 from only six in just 11 months.
Some of the carriers serving the Indian city are Air India, Trujet, Indigo, and Spicejet, with flights linking only to domestic areas such as Mumbai, Delhi, Udaipur, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Bengaluru.
In March last year, India-based carrier Jet Airways - which was one of the carriers serving Aurangabad Airport - filed for bankruptcy and ceased all operations.
Apart from Bangkok, the ATDF is also inviting flight operators from Dubai, Singapore, and Colombo for direct flights to Aurangabad.
