AoT Reports Strong Airport Traffic in September

Six Thai airports operated by Airports of Thailand (AoT) registered a strong increase in aircraft movement and passenger traffic during the previous month.

According to data released on Wednesday by AoT, aircraft movement   increased from 56,761 in September 2015 to 62,733 in September, 2016 or 10.52%. At the same time, passenger traffic went up from 7,720,738 in September last year to 8,888,754 in September this year, which was a 15.13% increase.

Highlights for September

The biggest Thai airport, Suvarnabhumi, registered a total of 42.05 million passengers in the first nine months of 2016. The airport also reported an increase in domestic movements between September 2015 and 2016 of 9.67% (5,512 vs. 6,045), while international aircraft movement went from 18,974 to 20,747 or 9.34% up.

Domestic passenger traffic at Suvarnabhumi increased 5.44 % from 12,637 to 13,324 and international passenger traffic increased 11.78% from 2,980,562 to 3,331,733.

Don Muang Airport reported an improvement of 5.44% in domestic aircraft movement from 12,637 to 13,324 and 17,59% increase in international aircraft movement from 5,259 to 6,184.

Domestic passenger traffic at Thailand’s second aviation gateway went up 9.76% from 1,611,315 to 1,768,593, while international traffic increased from 673,204 to 907,165 or 34.75%.

This airport also welcomed 26.30 million passengers between January and September this year.

Phuket Airport registered a total number of 11.33 million passengers going through it as well as an increase in domestic and aircraft movement of 14.28% (3,355 to 3,834) and 14.00% (3,286 to 3,746) respectively. The airport also registered an increase of 21.27% from 402,528 to 488,137 in domestic and 24.54% or from 457,791 to 570,121 in international passenger traffic.

Chiang Mai Airport also had a good September as domestic aircraft movements went up 10.57% from 3,690 to 4,080 and international movements were up 11.98% (1,202 to 1,346). Domestic traffic increased 13.69% (468,722 to 532,912) and international passenger traffic was up last month by 12.99% (130,467 to 147,419). This airport handled 6.91 million passengers so far this year, without October.

Chiang Rai reported a total increase in aircraft movements of 13.89% (943 to 1,074) and of 17.94% (122,670 to 144,673) in passenger traffic. Meanwhile, Hat Yai reported an improvement in aircraft movement of 23.65% (1,903 to 2,353) and of 15.05% (278,865 to 322,091) in passenger traffic.

Chiang Mai International Airport continued to show growth in September. International aircraft movements registered a growth of 11.98% (1,202 to 1,346), while domestic aircraft movements increased 10.57% (3,690 to 4,080).

International passenger traffic grew 12.99% from 130,467 to 147,419, while domestic traffic gained 13.69% from 468,722 to 532,912.
