Aeroflot, the national airline of Russia, will start flying directly from Irkutsk, Russia, to Bangkok, Thailand, on January 18, 2023.
The route will be flown twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays by a Boeing 737-800, with a 6:25 hour travel duration.
Irkutsk, sometimes referred to as the "Paris of Siberia," is the 25th most populous city in Russia. The Irkutsk Oblast's biggest city, with a population of 17.5 million, is located there. The city is connected to various areas in Russia and Mongolia by the Trans-Siberian Railway.
The sole airline presently operating flights between Irkutsk and Bangkok is Russia's S7 Airlines.
Due to Russia's harsher winter, there have been seven times as many Russian tourists visiting Thailand since September. It should come as no surprise that Siberians would want to board a flight to Bangkok. In the Land of Smiles, the temperature is now 30 degrees Celsius, whereas, in Irkutsk, it is a chilly 11 degrees Celsius.
Russians might go anyplace in southeast Asia to escape the cold, but reliable Thailand is a longtime favourite among them; before the outbreak, Russians were Thailand's 7th biggest tourist market. Additionally, Thailand has gone above and beyond this winter to entice Russians, organising chartered aircraft and providing prolonged visa exemptions upon arrival.
Up until the conclusion of high season, Russians and citizens of any other nation that has a bilateral agreement with Thailand are not required to get a visa to enter the country for stays of up to 45 days.
Russian tourists are now the largest tourist group in Phuket. Last month, behind Malaysia and India, Russia was Thailand's third-largest market overall.
Aeroflot started direct flights between Moscow and Phuket in October so that more Russian tourists could visit the tropical paradise.
The national airline also offers service between the major cities of Thailand and Russia.
