Thailand is Best Golf Destination for 2013

Thailand is widely known for its beautiful beaches and gleaming religious temples drawing tens of millions of tourists every year from all over the world.

But with the recognition it recently receives from an international award-giving body Thailand is also considered a serious destination for golf enthusiasts.

The prestigious regional travel magazine, Safari India, has bestowed the title Best Golf Destination to Thailand during the annual National Tourism Awards 2013 held recently. The recognition was a testament to the country's popularity as a diverse tourist destination in the region.

The same award-giving body also recognized Mrs Runjuan Tongrut as the Best Professional in Marketing award. Mrs. Tongrut is the Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) regional office in New Delhi, India.

She was very grateful to Safari India for the twin awards that recognize her efforts to promote Thailand to Indian travelers as a major tourist destination in the region. Thailand has become the favorite destination for golfers from around the world thanks to its numerous world-class golf courses, modern tourist facilities and infrastructures as well as cost competitiveness.

Mrs. Tongrut also expressed her gratitude to Gaganjeet Bhullar as the poster boy for TAT's effort to attract golfers from around the world. Gaganjeet Bhullar is currently the hottest and most popular golf player in India.

As of the last count, Thailand hosts to more than 250 world-class standard golf courses, a good number of them are designed by international golf legends. These golf courses are usually found in or within a few drive from the country's popular tourist centers such as Bangkok, Phuket, Chinag Mai, Pattaya, Hua Hin, Koh Samui, Chiang Rai and Khao Yai.

Hua Hin is home to the oldest continuously used golf course in Thailand, the 18-hole Royal Hua Hin which was built in 1924. However, golf is said to have been played in the country as early as 1905 at the Royal Bangkok Sports Club.

Thailand is also home to the twin internationally-renowned golf tournaments such as the prestigious Honda LPGA Thailand and the Royal Trophy ' Europe vs. Asia Golf Championship. Most recently, it hosted in late April this year the Asia Golf Tourism Convention and the Yatra Tournament in June of this year.
