Come December, Thai Airways will launch a direct service to Sendai, the capital of Miyagi Prefecture located in northeastern Japan.
The lone direct service from Bangkok to the largest city in Japan's Tohuko region will be serviced by a wide-body A330-300 jetliner. The new route is expected to meet the growing demand between the two destinations, especially Thai travelers who are becoming more attracted to travel to Japan.
In the same token, Japanese travelers are also becoming more interested in Thailand as a favorite tourist destination in the region, according to Chokchai Panyayong, the airline's senior executive vice president for commercial department.
The Bangkok-Sendai link will be the airline's seventh route to Japan following Fukuoka, Osaka, Nagoya, Sapporo and Tokyo (Haneda and Narita).
Based on the data gathered from Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), over 400,000 Japanese tourists came to Thailand in the first three months of this year alone. The number represents 22% of the total number of international arrivals from the Asian region, making Japan the second largest source of foreign tourists from Asia to visit Thailand.
The flight TG680 will leave Bangkok every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 2359 hrs and the return flight, TG681, will arrive in Sendai every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 0755 hrs (local time) respectively.
