Four flights were delayed on Wednesday at Surat Thani Airport following a minor incident involving an Orient Thai Airlines plane when two of its tires got busted while making an emergency landing.

Fortunately enough, no one got injured from the incident.

The Boeing 737 plane was carrying 130 Chinese tourists on board bound for the resort island of Phuket. The pilot reported an engine problem when he requested the air traffic controllers at Surat Thani Airport to allow his plane to make an emergency landing.

The plane was coming from Guizhou, China and was headed to Phuket, its original and final destination in Thailand.

Based on the statements of the President of Aeronautical Radio of Thailand, Prajak Sajjasophon, the pilots of the aircraft asked permission from the air controllers at the airport to land after an engine problem was detected. The inclement weather at the Phuket Airport compounded the problem as it was not safe enough to land there. However, when the plane was finally about to touch down at the runway, two of its tires exploded, causing airport authorities to temporarily disallow any landing or takeoff at the runway.

According to the airline official, the tires reportedly burst after the brakes were heavily applied on them while the aircraft was already touching down the runway.

The airport resumed its normal operations shortly after airport authorities quickly ordered the removal of the aircraft from the runway. The airline then sent a fleet of buses to Surat Thani to fetch the stranded passengers and brought them safely to Phuket.
