Thai AirAsia (TAA) major shareholder isn't dampened by the International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO) move to give Thai aviation sector the red flag.

According to TAA major stakeholder, Asia Aviation Plc, it isn't affected by ICAO's decision. The airline's 2015 expansion plans involving fleet and flight routes will push through as programmed. The airline also met January to June ROI expectations and stakeholders are pleased with its performance so far.

TAA CEO, Tassapon Bijleveld assured that the airline will still pursue whatever plans it has set forth and added that ICAO's announcement had no negative impact on the airline.

In response to ICAO's issuance of a red flag status on Thailand just last week, Mr. Tassapon also highlighted that the airline has, to this date, achieved positive returns owing to the flourishing tourism industry.

He mentioned that two more aircrafts will be purchased, bringing the total number of fleet to around 45. Subsequently, new flight routes will likewise be launched.

Meanwhile, Mr. Tassapon remains positive about the airline's level of safety standards and its capability to maintain and improve on these. According to the CEO, TAA remains at par with other countries' air safety standards especially in terms of station and base checks and inspections.

ICAO issued a red flag status on Thailand on June 18, 2015.
