Bangkok is TripAdvisor Travelers Choice

The golden temples and palaces that glisten under the tropical sun and its myriad world-class attractions easily made Bangkok the top of the list among travelers to Asia.

In the most recent global annual survey conducted by TripAdvisor, Bangkok got the nod from the majority of the travelers who have been to Asia in the previous year as shown in this year's 2013 Travellers' Choice Destinations in Asia.

The awards are given annually by TripAdvisor, the largest travel site in the world, which gives honors to top destinations across the globe, spanning across all continents except Antarctica. Top 25 destinations are chosen in each region which include Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Central America, North America, South America, Europe, the Middle East, South Pacific and countries of China, Mexico and the United States.

The awarding ceremony for this year's event was held on June 18, 2013 in Singapore.

The awards were not based on the number of votes but based on destination's popularity to travelers, as well as the travelers' positive opinions about the destination itself including their favorite spots or highly-rated places in that particular destination. The more positive reviews and highly-rated places a destination gets, the more points it gets.

TripAdvisor's Senior Vice President of Global Advertising, Robin Ingle, personally handed the awards to the Thai Ambassador, His Excellency, Marut Jitpatima in behalf of the city of Bangkok. Singapore's own Ms Lim Shoo Ling received the same award for Singapore who came in 8th place. Ms Lim Shoo Ling is the Deputy Director of Brand for Singapore Tourism Board.
