AirAsia, dubbed the world's premiere budget airline, announced it has slashed prices off its pre-booked in-flight meals for regional Malaysian flights starting March 1, 2012, giving passengers up to 30 percent of savings if they select their meals at the airline's website, www.airasia.com.
Last month, the airline had also announced lower fees for check-in baggage and sports equipment to give its passengers more opportunities to enjoy these value-added services at reduced prices.
Kathleen Tan, the air carrier's Regional Head of Commercial said AirAsia continually takes into account passenger feedback to better the airline's services. The reduction in prices of in-flight meals comes on the heels of a wider and improved selection of AirAsia's on-board menu, which features a wide array of food from all over the region.
AirAsia's pre-booked meal offerings on Malaysian flights, that previously cost RM9 for a Frankster (chicken hot dog), Cheesy Extravaganza Pizza Wedge, Smoked Chicken Focaccia, Pancakes with Butter and Maple Syrup and Assorted Sandwiches set, and RM12 for a Pak Nasser's Nasi Lemak, Uncle Chin's Chicken Rice, Green Curry Chicken, Asian Fried Rice with Satay, Chicken Satay, Ginger Fried Rice with Vegetarian Chicken, Roast Chicken with BBQ Sauce, Spaghetti Chicken Bolognaise, Vegetarian Pulao Briyani, Bukhara Chicken Briyani, are now priced at RM7.90 and TM9.90, respectively. Each meal set comes with a 100ml bottle of mineral water.
The airline also features a Special Meal of the Month which changes every two months to coincide with holidays and celebrations throughout the ASEAN region. Food representing Hari Raya, Deepavali, Christmas and Chinese New Year in Malaysia, and even the Songkran festival in Thailand, are highlighted for each occasion, and can be booked online at the reduced price of RM13.90 per set from the previous RM15 it used to cost.
AirAsia is further tempting the gustatory cravings of its passengers with a new lineup of three menu additions: Beef Stew, Tandoori Chicken Tortilla Wrap, and Mat Kelapa (made from fresh coconuts). Each set can be pre-booked online at RM9.90 and RM7.90 a set.
AirAsia stresses that the new reduced prices rival that of typical fast food meal sets, and airline guests are also encouraged to purchase more than one pre-booked meal online for additional savings. Passengers who are BIG Card holders will receive 2X BIG Points with each meal they book along with their flights.
AirAsia passengers can pre-book their meals up to 48 hours before their flight, as well as avail of the airline's other reduced-cost value-added services via the 'Manage My Booking' tab on the airline's website.
