With the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) “red flag” hanging above them, most Thailand carriers have turned to China for visitors. With that in mind, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Thai Smile have joined forces in an effort to promote quality Thailand tours for visitors from the PR China.

12 members of the Chinese media from Changsha and Chongqing had the first “taste” of the new initiative, as they had the opportunity to explore the attractions Surat Thani province has to offer, including the Koh Samui Resort Island and Khao Sok National Park between 22nd and 27th September.

Speaking about the initiative, TAT Executive Director for East Asia Region, Ms. Runjuan Tongrut said:

So many tourists now come to Thailand from China seeking unique and exciting experiences. By partnering with THAI Smile, we can show them the traditional ways of life found in Thailand’s southern regions and enable them to take part in some of the cultural activities found there. This wonderful region of the nation with its islands and parks is often little visited by Chinese visitors. But these new routes mean they can fly home with amazing stories from amazing Thailand to tell.

Thai Smile Airways, which operates daily flights between Bangkok and Changsha as well as Bangkok and Chongqing, has its eyes set on the Chinese market and is offering more routes and increased frequency on existing flights, all with the idea of becoming the leading airline in this region.

The airline uses Airbus A320-200 aircraft on both Bangkok-Changsha and Bangkok-Chongqing routes and allows up to 20 kilograms of baggage to be carried onboard. Once boarded, passengers can also enjoy delightful Thai food and the comfort of wider seats.

The province of Surat Thani owes much of its popularity to its beautiful beaches, islands and plentiful marine and national parks. In addition, visitors can also enjoy the world famous Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan, go rock climbing or spend a day hiking.

With the Than Airport in Surat only an hour away from Bangkok by plane, visitors from have no problem in transit, as there are plenty of direct flights between China and the Thailand capital.
