Thailand-based airline Thai Lion Air (TLA) announced it will start operating two new routes in this year. The low-cost carrier (LCC) announced the launch of Bangkok-Trang and Chiang Mai-Surat Thani for 2017. The launch for both routes is set for 10th February, 2017.
The Lion Air low-cost subsidiary waited nearly a whole year to receive permission from Thailand’s authorities to start operating flights between Bangkok and Trang, while Chiang-Mai-Surat Thani will be its second inter-regional domestic route. TLA already operates non-stop flights from Udon Thani to Hat Yai.
The airline is offering one-way, all-inclusive discounted fare for flights between Bangkok and Trang for just 425 baht. TLA will operate two daily return flights (SL 824, SL 825, SL 826 and SL 827) between Bangkok and Trang and one daily return flight (SL 982 and SL 983) between Chian Mai and Surat Thani
Flight SL 824 will take off from Don Muang Airport at 9:35 am and will arrive in Trang about an hour and a half later (11:00 am). The return flight SL 825 will depart Trang at 12:45 pm and will arrive back at Don Muang at 2:10 pm.
Flight SL 826 is scheduled to leave Don Muang at 4:30 pm and will arrive in Trang at 5:55 pm. The return flight SL 827 will leave Trang at 8:00 pm and get back in Bangkok at 9:25 pm.
The the fare for Chiang Mai-Surat Thani will cost 925 baht. Flight SL 982 from Chiang Mai will take off at 1:05 pm and arrive at Surat Thani at 3:15 pm. The return flight, SL 983 will leave Surat Thani at 6:45 pm and get to Chiang Mai at 8:55 pm on the same day.
It will be interesting to see how TLA’s new routes will affect the current marketplace. Both of its new routes are already operated by rival Thai companies. Nok Air and Thai AirAsia operate flights between the Thailand capital and Trang, while TAA also operates a daily service between Chiang Mai and Surat Thani.
In addition to the two new routes, Thai Lion Air also operates nine other domestic, and six international routes from Don Muang Airport in Bangkok.
