In an announcement made on Monday, Thai AirAsia X has informed its passengers that it will suspend all flights from Bangkok’s Don Muang International Airport to Muscat, Oman from 19th January, 2017 and onward. Those who already made bookings for these dates can rebook at no additional cost to an earlier date between 19th December, 2016 and 14th January, 2017.

The announcement from TAAX said:

Thai AirAsia X announces the suspension of its service between Bangkok and Muscat, starting January 19, 2017 onwards. Both our Thai AirAsia X flights, XJ555 and XJ556, will remain suspended.

Customers can only change their flight once. The statement continues:

The change will only be permitted one time, and subject to seat availability. We are also offering a transfer cost of flight to a 180-day credit shell that can be used for the purchase of goods and services from AirAsia via www.airasia.com (such as flight tickets, pick-a-seat, pre-booking meals, baggage weight fee) or passengers can also receive full refund via the channel through which payment for the booking was made.

Other Routes Will Not be Affected, Says Thai AirAsia X

Thai AirAsia X apologizes for any inconvenience and affirms it will continue to serve flights from Bangkok to Tokyo and Osaka, Japan, Seoul, South Korea and Shanghai, China as usual,” it added. Travel agents in Oman said the summer was good for AirAsia X but after that, load factor had dropped drastically which prompted them to shelve their Muscat operations.

Thai AirAsia X has launched Thailand-Muscat operations in June this year and was operating three flights per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays on it, using Airbus A330-300 aircraft.

For more information or help with rebooking, customers can call AirAsia’s Call Centre in Thailand at +662-515-9999, or the Contact Centre in Oman between Sunday and Thursday at +968-2478-0016. They can also submit their request electronically at this E-form.

According to Thai AirAsia X, 27,076,308 tourists from across the world visited Thailand this year, until 31st October. 72,000 of those visitors came from Oman between January and August.
